Then little children were being brought to him in order that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples spoke sternly to those who brought them; but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.” And he laid his hands on them and went on his way.
— Matthew 19:13-15 (from the New Revised Standard translation)

Children’s Ministry

Children’s Ministry at St. Aidan’s provides year-round, lectionary-based  programming for children ages 3 months through 5th Grade. These offerings support our objective of Faith Fluency by providing our youngest members with age-appropriate lessons reinforcing the weekly readings. Our program year runs with the school year beginning in August and concluding in May; we reference the Fulton, Forsyth and Cherokee County school calendars. VBS and intergenerational summer programming takes place during June and July.

Offerings include Children’s Chapel, Sunday School, family-friendly fellowship events, age-appropriate mission and service opportunities, our annual Christmas Pageant and other festive, holiday events.

Nursery

Sunday Mornings 8:00am - 12:00pm

The Nursery is available for children ages 3 months to 3 years during 8:15 am and 11 am Sunday morning services.

Our loving Nursery caregivers are CPR and First Aid-trained and are certified in the Episcopal Church’s “Safeguarding God’s Children” program.  The curriculum offered in our nursery closely follows that taught in our Sunday School classes across the hall, supporting our objective of Faith Fluency.  This provides even our tiniest members and visitors with exposure to the same message their older siblings hear in class and in Children’s Chapel, and their parents hear in church.  Through play, music, Bible stories and loving care, our youngest members of God’s family experience His love each week.

The Nursery is located in the lower level of the parish hall, in the preschool wing. Please let a greeter or usher know if you are visiting for the first time, and we will be delighted to show you to the Nursery and introduce you to our Nursery caregivers.

Children’s Chapel

Sunday Mornings during the Late Service

Children’s Chapel is a Sunday morning worship experience designed just for children aged 3 through elementary school. Children are invited to process out of  church together, led by the Children’s Minister, to gather in Burtenshaw Hall next door.  There, we have our own Gospel reading and age-appropriate sermon segment, complete with a weekly children’s bulletin, a parent trivia question, and snack.

Children return to church to join their families at the Sign of Peace, and stay for the remainder of the service, including the Holy Eucharist (Communion).

If you are new to St. Aidan’s, please know that your child is welcome to join us for  Children’s Chapel!  Feel free to speak with an usher or Ellen Keel, Director of Family Ministries for more information.

Vacation Bible School • VBS

5 Day Program in June

Vacation Bible School (VBS) is a week-long camp-style program for children in pre-school through grade 5. VBS takes place in the early summer.

VBS is led by staff and adult and youth volunteers. Our 2019 VBS was creation-care centered and focused on God’s plans for us to prosper and grow as individuals, as members of our community and as world-citizens. Each child planted a “pizza garden” to take home, over the course of the week-long VBS, Other activities included exploring our roots, helping one another grow and supporting our community. But most of all, we had FUN learning about God’s world and our place in it.

During the day, children move through rotations including music, outdoor activity, story time, arts and crafts, snack, and assembly-style programs.
